From Big Iron to Big Data: Syncsort takes a fresh look at future applications
Syncsort Inc. has carved out a role for itself as a provider of technology to bring information stored on mainframes into the robust world of big data processing. Now the company is strengthening its portfolio with the release of software to handle enterprise workloads on-premises or in the cloud, while building a new bridge for moving data into Microsoft Azure.
It’s all part of Syncsort’s focus on keeping data fresh for the evolving world of applications management. “One of the challenges that we see with our enterprise customers … is the ability to future-proof data applications,” said Tendü Yogurtçu (pictured), chief technology officer at Syncsort. “Our focus and most recent announcements have been around helping our customers with real-time capture, keeping the data fresh, feeding it into the downstream applications.”
Yogurtçu spoke with Rebecca Knight (@knightrm) and James Kobielus (@jameskobielus), co-hosts of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the DataWorks Summit in San Jose, California. They discussed recent company announcements surrounding cloud migration tools and the integration of analytics support for enterprise data stores. (* Disclosure below.)
New tools for cloud migration
Earlier this week, the company announced enhancements for its Athene capacity management software, with new capabilities to enable easier on-prem-to-cloud migrations and optimized workloads in hybrid environments. Syncsort also revealed that it had been named to Microsoft’s One Commercial partner program, which supports the Azure cloud initiatives of its customers.
“This is a very rapidly changing stack,” Yogurtçu said. “Now we are talking about the cloud.”
Syncsort is also taking about machine learning and artificial intelligence. The recent integration with Azure includes making transferred machine data analytics-ready in the cloud.
“Data scientists today are still spending significant time on preparing the data for the AI pipeline, and that’s where we shine,” Yogurtçu said. “Our integrated portfolio accesses the data from all enterprise data stores and cleans, matches and prepares that in a clustered manner to use for advanced analytics.”
