Nutanix juggles cost efficiency and fast delivery with multicloud optimization
As the federal government embraces cloud, what are the kinds of questions they’re wrestling with? The biggest concerns are cost efficiency and fast delivery for cloud services, and Nutanix Inc. is rising to the challenge. Dealing with the unique issues that face governmental requirements, Nutanix creates innovative solutions that help the public sector visualize their gains through cloud, according to Dan Fallon (pictured), director of public sector systems engineers at Nutanix.
“In the federal government, since we’re in D.C. … a really big focus [is] on data center optimization and cloud-first mandates,” Fallon said. “Cost is a big thing, and a lot of times because of those mandates the cost has to be a second factor.”
Fallon spoke with Stu Miniman (@stu), host of theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s mobile livestreaming studio, during the AWS Public Sector Summit in Washington, D.C. They discussed how Nutanix is dealing with cost and cloud questions in both government and private sectors. (* Disclosure below.)
Visualization of cost efficiency
Because a choice to use cloud often comes from higher-level mandates in government, this leads to quick implementation and a lack of cost knowledge, according to Fallon. As cost ends up being a secondary factor, implementation of cloud might be more expensive because government entities are being told to do it so quickly.
“It might end up being more expensive because they’re not really taking that into consideration,” he said.
To help solve this dilemma, Nutanix launched a software as a service platform, called Nutanix Beam, that helps governments and private companies have a greater ability to analyze budget and costs. Users can see visibility of per day, per month, and per year usage.
“You can actually get a quick visualization of, ‘Am I getting the best value out of my cloud contract?'” Fallon concluded.
