Amazon launches AWS Security Hub for monitoring security issues

Amazon.com Inc. today rolled out a new service for monitoring and prioritizing security issues for Amazon Web Services Inc. customers.

Called the AWS Security Hub, the service has been designed to provide AWS users with a comprehensive view of their security state within AWS and to assist them in checking their compliance with security industry standards and best practices.

Introduced at AWS’ annual re:Invent conference in Las Vegas, the service collects data from across AWS accounts, services including Amazon GuardDuty, Amazon Inspector and Amazon Macie and supported third-party partners. The idea is to provide both analysis of security trends and the identification of the high-priority security issues.

“Security Hub reduces the effort of collecting and prioritizing security findings across accounts, from AWS services, and AWS partner tools,” Amazon explains on the product page. “The service ingests data using a standard findings format, eliminating the need for time-consuming data conversion efforts. It then correlates findings across providers to prioritize the most important findings.”

AWS Security Hub comes with support for third-party security providers, many of which have already signed up to the service. Companies supporting the service include Trend Micro Inc., McAfee LLC, Check Point Software Technologies Ltd., Tenable Inc. and Sumo Logic Inc.

George Gerchow, chief security officer at Sumo Logic, told SilconANGLE that the service sends a strong message to the market about the relevance of and need for cloud-based security solutions that combat today’s modern security threats and address growing needs from customers.

“As a Security Hub launch partner, we’re able to help our mutual customers complete the security response lifecycle by giving analysts the raw data and platform needed to correlate, investigate and remediate threats and attacks,” Gerchow explained. “The reality is that legacy SIEM and on-premises systems can’t keep pace with the rate of innovation that spans cloud, containers, orchestration and serverless computing.”
