Seems Everyone Benefits from iPhone Sales, Even Apple

Silicon Valley stocks went through the roof as some of the biggest players in the industry reported high revenues and an increase in growth. Apple is one of the companies belonging to this list, and even managed to grab top status in the mobile market.

Apple’s revenue was $24.67 billion, up a remarkable 83 percent compared to the previous year, and, the iPhone was the main driver behind the following figures:

“Apple’s revenue was $24.67 billion, up 83 percent compared to the previous year…Profits came in at $5.99 billion or nearly double the quarterly profit Apple earned in the first quarter (its second fiscal quarter) during 2010.”

According to the company, it has sold an impressive 18.65 million iPhone units. That’s about 113 percent more than the amount the company has sold in the same period last year, adding up to wholesale revenues of $11.9 billion in the first quarter of 2011. That puts Apple $2 billion ahead Nokia’s $9.4 billion, who sells its devices to carriers for roughly one seventh the price Apple does on average. The mobile gold rush of 2010 may be over according to some, but the demand is still alive and kicking.

When it comes to its devices, Apple’s iPad sales actually decreased to 4.69 million this quarter, compared to the over 7 million it did last year. iPod sales were down also down at 17 percent less than in the same period in 2010, but Mac sales leaped 53 percent. PC sales were down in light of the globally decreasing demand pushed by the rise mobile technologies, however Apple did manage to sell roughly 2.5 million laptops.

Last but not least, iTunes has also seen some staggering growth – sales jumped by 27 percent. Despite it the fact it is overshadowed by the iPad and iPhone when it comes to analysts’ views, digital storefront generated more than $1.4 billion in sales in Q1. That sets a new record for the iTunes, which generated $1.1 billion in Q1, 2010, and the most of revanue can be most likely attributed to the app store. As Apple’s iPhone expands its turf on a global, so does the App Store.

At the end of the day, the most notable aspect is probably the surge in the iPhone’s popularity. It accounted for a big chunk of Apple’s revanues, and also accounted for a big chunk of AT&T’s revanues – the carrier also had its earnings call.
