Couchbase Secures $14M, Forges Ahead in NoSQL Revolution
Couchbase, a leading provider of NoSQL database technology, has secured a $14 million in series C funding, led Ignition Partners with participation from the company’s existing investors Accel Partners, Mayfield Fund, and North Bridge Venture Partners, bringing their total funding to $30 million.
The new funding will be used to accelerate the delivery of simple, fast and elastic NoSQL database technologies, grow the company in the enterprise market, and expand internationally. The company will also dedicate resources to support its rapidly growing community through expanded technical education and community events.
“Since the merger that formed Couchbase earlier this year, the adoption and production deployments of Couchbase technology have been very strong and accelerating,” said Bob Wiederhold, CEO of Couchbase. “With the recent release of Couchbase Server 2.0, our groundbreaking NoSQL solution, we expect our business to accelerate even further. The additional financing gives us the ability to invest more aggressively in this rapidly growing market and continue to anticipate and meet the needs of customers who rely on Couchbase NoSQL technology.”
Couchbase recently partnered with SQLite, and revealed the Unstructured Query Language (UnQL), the language that offers SQL like syntax to enable the selection and manipulation of complex document structures. As Couchbase looks to develop new standards around the NoSQL community, its latest round of funding will surely help the company as it moves forward with new product and feature roll-outs.
Couchbase has been on a roll since emerging as the love-child of MemeBase and CouchDB. The company’s been a solid supporter of the growing OpenStack initiative, while growing its own product base and board as well. Couchbase has also refreshed its server offerings, extending support for Mac OS X amongst other products, fully enhancing its position within the open cloud industry.
