Hitachi Integrates Converged Infrastructure with HANA

Hitachi subsidiary Hitachi Data Systems got a part of its converged infrastructure solutions portfolio certified to run SAP HANA, the business software maker’s in-memory data analytics offering.

“Hitachi Converged Platform for SAP HANA gives our joint customers the pre-validated solutions and software to access the data that runs their business faster while delivering real-time analytics – ultimately accelerating business innovation while building on our joint commitment to help organizations enable growth in advanced SAP solution-based environments,” said Mike Walkey, SVP of Global Partners and Alliances for HDS.

Hitachi will provide joint customers Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage (AMS) 2000 hardware and Hitachi Compute Blade 2000 blades which support the virtualization element in HANA that spreads workloads across the client, application and database.

This update is a latest development in a partnership between Hitachi and SAP that has been active in the past decade-and-a-half.  HANA is still in its early stages, considering it was launched less than 10 months ago, but SAP is looking aggressively at new routes to expand its domain in the analytics space.

This is a part of an effort by the company to reach $20 billion in revenue by 2015, a goal it has been inching towards with some impressive recent growth figures.  The company reported a rise in net profit, and co-CEO Jim Snabe revealed plans to drastically trim its development cycle to a mere 6 months in an interview with SiliconANGLE founder John Furrier.

On the other end of HANA, Hitachi is also focused on achieving growth.  The company is strengthening its partner ecosystem as well, and one of the most recent milestones was an agreement with Hewlett-Packard to install Hitachi-made solid-state drives into 3PAR storage arrays. HP acquired 3PAR for  $2.35 billion in September last year.
