Augmented Reality Takes a Turn for the Silly [Whatchu Talkin’ Bout?]

I described my newfound philosophical interest augmented reality, and what the future may hold for us as this technology distributes across our periphery. I clearly hadn’t thought through the implications thoroughly enough. Two downright silly (but fun) applications of augmented reality have come across my desk in the last twenty four hours. The first was ...

Giovanni Gallucci Provides Top 10 Extreme Social Media Hacks [#wcdfw09]

At Wordcamp Dallas this year, a number of constructive talks of wide interest beyond just the blogging community were given.  I’d like to think that mine ranks in that arena, but one that I enjoyed in particular (as well as getting to meet the speaker for the first time) was the talk given by Giovanni ...

US CIO Vivek Kundra is the Tip of the Iceberg

The blogosphere is teaming up to get to the bottom of a mystery stirred up by respected technology pundit John C. Dvorak. Dvorak raises a lot of serious and as of yet unanswered questions about the Obama Administration’s appointment for US CIO Vivek Kundra. I was very much against the creation of the CTO post ...

Could WordPress Be the Natural Successor to Twitter, Friendfeed and Facebook?

I say ‘quite possibly so’ – though it’ll be a long road to get there. I say we’re headed towards a Federated real-time web, and WordPress looks like it could be best positioned to take the helm of that ship. Friendfeed (and their acquisition by Facebook) has been the topic of conversation here at SiliconANGLE ...

Treating the Body Like a Machine [proto-nanotech]

We don’t do a whole lot of medical news here at SiliconANGLE – in fact, I’m pretty sure this is the first post on the topic. None-the-less, I do like to pepper in a fair share of bleeding edge technology news and views when I can, and I caught a brilliant and stunning piece of ...

Breaking News: Facebook Acquiring Friendfeed [Quips A’Plenty]

In the age of real-time, the fact that Facebook is acquiring Friendfeed is already old news (and the story just broke about a half hour ago). The terms of the deal aren’t being disclosed, and the press release is fairly sketchy on details, but long on ecstatic quotes from the founders of both companies: “As ...

The Real Time Web’s Usership is Difficult to Nail Down

We’ve been pretty closely watching and thinking about what’s being called the “real time web” by some (and the “2010 Web” by fellow ANGLEr Robert Scoble). It’s an impressive paradigm shift on how attention has re-focused on the Web, and Rob Hof over at Business Week has a great story on that part of our ...

Could MetroPCS’s Reduced Earnings Stem from the Lack of an Open App Store?

Stacey Higgenbotham over at GigaOM this afternoon noted MetroPCS’s lowered earnings report from this morning: MetroPCS, the prepaid cellular service provider, this morning reported a weaker profit and a drop in new subscribers for the second quarter, and analysts are blaming the increased competition among prepaid plans. The carrier, which has been reporting record quarters, ...

Netbooks Aren’t Dead Yet

I was paging through my RSS reader this afternoon, and came across a post from the normally quite reasonable Mike Elgan at his “raw feed” entitled: Is the Netbook Dead? Ha! It Never Existed! In it, he says: 2008 was the "Year of the Netbook." It’s only 2009, and already pundits are pronouncing the ...
