Who Owns UGC? [Laws of Social Media]

VentureBeat tried to answer the increasingly common question of where ownership of UGC falls today in their “Ask the Attorney” column. Their answer? A broad answer is that you own it and, most likely, the service upon which you post it owns it too.  The key question is: What terms of use does that service ...

The #ReadItAll Challenge is Not For Me

Justin Kownacki, an insightful and geeky blogger, has initiated an interesting project and challenge aimed at bringing attention to our personal information consumption habits with regard to reading and blogging. It’s interesting because unlike most of the recent challenges to hit headlines, this one seems aimed at helping the reader (should they accept this mission) ...

Windows Media Center as an Enterprise Sales Tool [or How Microsoft Isn’t Doomed]

I’m struggling right now with the proper way to open this blog post. The inspiration for the post you’re now reading was written by a former podcast co-host of mine, MG Siegler with his trademark flair. A great read, really. If You Think Hulu Isn’t Taking Over the World, You’ve Not Been Paying Attention

The “day after” editorial on major movements in tech is almost always fun to watch. Today is no exception, as I’m seeing a lot of delayed reaction from several bloggers on the news of Hulu coming to a wide variety of set top and mobile devices that Kristen and I talked about yesterday. The prevailing ...

Dear CableCo’s and Telcos: Today is the First Day of the Rest of Your Lives [An Open Letter]

Dear Big Old Media, I don’t know if you were paying attention today, guys, but the game completely changed. As of yesterday, you guys were sitting high on the hog. Kings of the heap. You guys could pretty much throw anything out there to the consumers, and if they told you they didn’t like it, ...

No, Mark Zuckerberg Isn’t More Powerful than the President

Never would I imagine the day would come when I’d have to, with a straight face, address the question as to whether or not the founder of a social network wielded more power than the head of state for the most powerful nation in the free world. Austin Carr gave this ridiculous idea airplay today ...

Teaser for “The Social Network” Released. Roast Coming Soon. [Facebook Movie]

Mashable, apparently, got an exclusive first look at the teaser trailer for “The Social Network,” and got a chance to share it with the rest of the world via their blog. I’m not sure about you, but as someone who’s covered Facebook nearly since their inception (including pretty close coverage of various portions of the ...
